Joanne DeTiere

Joanne DeTiere, Coordinator of Shelter Services
“Joanne always goes above and beyond what is asked or expected,” said the staff member who nominated her for the award. “She is excellent at making the customer’s need her first priority and she is always willing to help whoever is in need.”
DeTiere’s long and varied career at Family Service includes stints as supervisor of Clara House, Harmony House, and the Housing Support Team. In her current role, she is responsible for coordinating services at both Clara House and Carpenter House domestic violence shelters.
“In all of the roles that Joanne has had at the agency her top concern is safety,” her co-worker continued. “The initial client contact of intake/admin; the instability of supervised visitation and exchange; the challenges of domestic violence victims in a residential setting; and the unpredictability of the homeless population. Joanne is able to be safety minded without being impractical or alarmist.”
“Joanne demonstrates endless patience,” agreed agency President & CEO Tom Campbell, presenting the award. “She will always put a client’s needs first and will seek out whatever resources she needs in order to ensure the client’s needs are met. In addition, when volunteers are requested, Joanne is usually one of the first to sign up.”
“Joanne’s willingness to pitch in literally whenever and wherever needed makes you naturally want to return the favor,” the nomination concluded. “Joanne has done work with this style in many capacities as an employee of Family Service. She has never lost her zeal for helping and has maintained her fun and supportive demeanor as a co-worker!”
