Lin Amos

Nancy and Lin Amos
Horney recalled how he had introduced Amos to Family Service in 1989, during the construction of the agency’s High Point headquarters, the Slane Center, and the Carpenter House domestic violence shelter. Amos joined the Family Service of High Point Board and served for five years, including as Vice Chair and Chair. He served as a Charter member of the Family Service Endowment Board and was instrumental in his role as Capital Campaign Chair.
In 1995, Amos introduced a creative new fundraising concept called RSVP High Point, which resulted in the first Oyster Roast. The inaugural event was held at the Amos home and has continued each year in High Point and, since 2004, in Greensboro. In 2010, Lin and his wife Nancy hosted the High Point Oyster Roast for a second time. The 16th Annual event raised more than $61,000, a 40% increase over its previous fundraising record.
As well as the Oyster Roast in Greensboro, High Point’s Middle School Party and the Jamestown Pig Pickin’ also stemmed from Amos’ original Oyster Roast concept. His innovative idea continues to bring in not only dollars for Family Service, but also community awareness of the agency’s programs and services throughout High Point, Greensboro, Jamestown and surrounding areas.
