Where Your Money Goes

When you make a donation to Family Service of the Piedmont, about 10c of each $1.00 you give goes to support operating costs of the agency. The remaining 90c out of each $1.00 goes directly to provide services for children and families.

You may choose to designate your gift to a specific program, or give to support services in a specific location if you wish.

Here are some examples of what your gift might provide

$10 Buys
– A toy for an abused child visiting the Children’s Advocacy Center
– A puppet for children’s play therapy
– Personal hygiene products for shelter clients

$25 Buys
– Transportation for victims who cannot otherwise get to the women’s shelter
– Diapers and wipes for a Healthy Start family
– One person’s attendance at a free financial literacy workshop, providing information on budgeting, credit, or homeownership
– Emergency assistance (food, electricity, etc) for a family in need

$50 Buys
– A one hour initial counselling appointment to assess the needs of a client and share available options
– A one hour support group for victims of domestic violence
– A week’s food for a woman in the shelter with no money and no food stamps

$100 Buys
– One therapy session for an individual or family struggling with relationship problems, depression, or substance addiction
– One budget counselling and education session for a family to enhance their financial self-sufficiency
– One reverse mortgage counselling session for seniors needing to supplement their monthly income
– One week’s worth of food for a woman and her children in the domestic violence shelter

$250 Buys
– Two sessions by a certified credit counselor to assist families with loan modification and avoid foreclosure on their homes
– Two nights in shelter for a battered woman and her children
– Three therapy sessions for a child victim of sexual abuse and their family

$500 Buys
– Two months group therapy for men in the Domestic Violence Intervention Program, to help them change violent behaviors
– Four pre-purchase homeownership counselling sessions for families looking to buy their first home
– Five therapy sessions for a couple trying to save their marriage

$1,000 Buys
– A week in the shelter for a battered woman and her children
– Ten weeks of counselling for a child or adult victim of sexual abuse
– Eight sessions of mortgage assistance and debt management to help families avoid foreclosure as a result of unemployment associated with economic downturn
